Cleaning Tips

Learning how to properly clean your CPAP equipment is an important part of your sleep apnea therapy. Instructions should be given on how to clean the equipment when you are set up with your CPAP machine. Here is a list of some helpful tips to aid in the longevity of your equipment.

  • Clean your mask cushion/seal after every use. Wash your tubing, mask or nasal pillows every morning. This will allow enough time for your supplies to completely dry.
  • The best way to clean your mask cushion/seal is to use a MILD soap that is NON-antibacterial. Anti-bacterial soap will break down your mask significantly faster. You can also purchase CPAP wipes for easy effective cleaning.
  • Hang the tubing over your shower rod or towel bar to air dry.
  • Place the mask and headgear on a towel to air dry.
  • Hanging the headgear from a clothes hanger or wall hook will help it to dry faster.
  • Wipe down the CPAP/BIPAP machine with a damp cloth weekly.
  • Be sure to check manufacturers instructions on filter cleaning instructions and when to change them
  • Be sure to empty your humidifier every morning and clean it with mild soap and water at least once per week. Bacteria will grow in stagnant water, so it is essential to be diligent with emptying the humidifier daily!
